This particular assignment deals with time management. This concept is very important to the success of just about all areas of life.~ Thomas E. Lambright, Jr.
Time Management There are several time management issues that I feel are important with regards to online courses. These time management issues are the following: time use for the completion of assignments, possible resubmission of assignments, and possible loss of internet connectivity. One of the issues that I have dealt with from experience when it comes to time management is the concept of trying to stay ahead one week in advance of the assignments. Actually staying a week ahead of assignments is a time management issue of anticipation. Another time management issue is going to vacations locations with no internet connections. I can recall going on vacation to discover an ant infestation problem; the clean up resulted in the removal of furniture, chairs, and unknown to at the time the wireless router, just my luck. Three of the five days were spent finding a location with wireless internet in order to submit a paper that was due. Thus good time management is essential to help one stay ahead for the unexpected setbacks. There are some time management issues that are a concern for both the instructor as well as the student. One particular time management issue that affects both is the request of the instructor to resubmit an assignment. A time issue goes into play when both the resubmitted and next assignment are still due. The professor also has been introduced to a time management issue, grading the resubmit and finding time to post responses to next week’s discussion board (Bender, 2003). A third big time issue for professors and students is work submitted late. There are strategies and approaches in handling time issues. One approach to handling late assignment issues is to obtain a large desk calendar and record the due dates of each project. In this way one can prioritize their time according to due dates (Palloff & Pratt, 2007). A strategy to having time for resubmits can happen by simply creating a consistent schedule of time which allows for study, reading and open hour blocks of free time that can be used at any time. In this way, time is available for a resubmit and one can still work on next week’s assignment just as scheduled. This strategy also can provide for unanticipated events. Another approach to consider improving on time management is to select locations to vacation which have access to the internet.
